Information on the June 1st Meeting regarding the proposed realignment of Burke Road
Burke Station Square Residents,
I recently attended the 1 Jun citizen information meeting conducted by FCDot on their proposed upgrades to the Burke Rd curve. The presentation by FC DoT was interesting and created several clarification questions and several follow-on questions. I have asked for a link to the actual presentation slides and will provide if available.
Comments on the presentation and discussion need to be to the project manager, Jeanmarie Roberson at jeanmarie.roberson@fairfaxcounty.gov, by 16 Jun.
I’ve included several documents leading up to the FCDoT presentation for your background and information. A blank copy of the comment sheet for those that want to provide comments. An updated issue paper. I also am providing proposed comments to use on the comment sheet if you want to forward to the project manager and the flier FCDoT used to announce the meeting.
While the FC DoT proposal provides several areas of improvement to the existing road configuration, the proposal significantly increases speed around the Burke curve and most likely along most of Burke Rd. As a community, our number one concern is not to increase speeds along Burke Rd.
The FCDoT proposal did not invite the community for input into the design proposal and is reluctant to recognize there are significant safety impacts along the curve and along overall Burke Rd as a result of their design proposal. As part of the information meeting , FCDoT agreed to meet with members of the community to address our concerns and comments, I will work this with Supervisor Herrity’s office to schedule the meeting and see how FCDoT will address community concerns.
Pls forward to others in your community to provide comments and let FC DoT know we do not support the current design as proposed. If you provide comments and are willing to share with me pls send me a copy so I can make sure they are addressed.
Cheers, as always pls provide me feedback, I can provide additional
information if needed.
